In a room full of women again, this time 500!

By Dominic Munnelly

Well I thought last week’s talk with Lexus in Cork was interesting as it was filled with over 150 women but last night I was brought to a whole new level at the Marie Keating Foundation survive and thrive event for breast cancer survivors- a big knees up fashion event and me giving a talk on nutrition and exercise.

The foundation has done such a wonderful job at increasing breast cancer awareness and acting as a support group for all those affected by cancer. When I arrived and had a chat with Laura Bermingham I noticed a distinct lack of men – yes I know that’s obvious but when the women are drinking lots of pink champagne and have friends to support modeling on stage things might get interesting for me! Claire Byrne from Newstalk was doing MC for the evening and has been a strong supporter of the foundation for a few years now.

My talk was in between the two parts of the fashion show which used Assets models and breast cancer survivors as models. I was blown away by the first part as the atmosphere in the room in the Conrad hotel was amazing – so much energy and support for the models and particularly the non-professional models.

I took some video of the evening so have a look to get an idea of the sheer energy in the room and of course the great clothes.

After the first part of the fashion show Claire introduced me and I did my piece. I must say it was hard to get my message of cutting back on the carbs, doing weights, intervals, juicing, yoga, it’s not about willpower etc when the crowd had been so energetic and had a party atmosphere. Overall it went really well, I even had Claire up on stage for a body fat test (don’t worry I did not take it!) and I had the wonderful opportunity to meet so many of the audience afterwards as they had their questions on fat loss, exercise and diet all ready to be answered.

I was delighted to also meet Bernadette Bohan the author of the wonderful book The Choice. This is an absolutely essential read for anyone going through cancer or recovering from it as it’s packed full of useful and life changing information. Bernadette even asked me to talk at her events as we were both singing off the same hymn sheet when it comes to nutrition and exercise. Here is her info for all those interested in her brilliant work – http://www.changesimply.com/

I went home inspired by the energy and positivity of all the women there and even a bottle of pink champagne.

Thanks to all those that attended that have emailed me and I look forward to helping you look and feel your best.
